When I first joined a charismatic evangelical Christian youth group of a church at university some years back, it had 50 members. Four years later, by the time I graduated, it had more than 300 members. We had passion for the Lost. preached the Gospel Good News, and many were saved. But more than that, they were good people of passion and zeal for God, and love for Jesus.

There is the same potential for growth in the Gay churches because we have the same God. But seldom GLBT churches publish numbers even the Metropolitan Community church. The reason should be obvious as we too fall together with the general liberal decline even as gays are better accepted in the US.

In Asia, why doesn’t GLBT churches grow beyond a hundred since they are the only affirming church in a city of a few million? We don’t grow because of people and bad theology, which combined is a heavy stumbling stone.

On theology, we hold on to religious law of man made self effort-

a) Of continuosly repenting of our sins as if it is unforgiven or that the forgiveness of God was based on our repentance and holy living.

b) of trying to love more, a love based theology where we don’t condemn anyone, even unbelief in Jesus, as if our love brings us closer to God.

Do we offer anything more than the mainstream churches? liberal or conservative?

We have to do better, for change we must that Christ many be ministered to many more in the gay community than the 100 or so in the mountain top.

Our front doors are opened to Welcome Home. It is not that we have a revolving back door. Perhaps, the rainbow sheep doesn’t see Jesus. They walk out in the front door not that they want to leave but are hungry and no food can be found in our pantry. Jesus is the bread. He must die and be raised again to be eaten and His blood dranked by the thirsty.

In straight churches, there are many good people and good people don’t really need healing. Only the sick go to see Jesus. Only the hungry sheep need the miracle of the supernatural provision of bread/fish. We can’t satisfy a hungry person with an imagined food in their mind.

Gay churches attracts the worst kind of people! not that they are greater sinners, but incredibly broken and destroyed people. Broken people hide behind a firewall of pride and religiosity and intellect. The loudest bitches are the most hurt.

Our soul, spirit and mind have been destroyed by the rejection and condemnation of the mainline churches, by family, by society, by friends. We have lost everything, our lives, the right and freedom to love and be loved and to have a family, and to be married to our loved ones. And our woundings is not just for a season, but for many decades.

Recently, I overheard a conversation of a gay church leader who did much better than the Samaritan woman who had five husbands! The leader had three boyfriends all at the same time! I was not shocked only jealous I didn’t have the finance to do the same! But I rather have Jesus as my boyfriend than have riches and gold.

Gay churches attracts the most broken people, who does not need religion, but to experience the saving grace and presence of Jesus Christ. When we take out the Gospel Good News, there is no Hope and no assurance of salvation. We need salvation not only for the world to come, but for Jesus Christ to redeem all that we have lost even though He didn’t caused it.

God is not in outer courts. Jesus is in the Holy of Holies between the Cerubins. We can only enter by through the blood of Jesus Christ.

There is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. We have  a call to minister Jesus, His love, His grace and mercy founded on the blood of the lamb, the power of resurrection, and Jesus as God and Saviour. The sick need Jesus, they don’t need theologians telling them that they are well or not hungry.

The incredible compassion of Christ fills my heart tonight. Gay churches are God’s compassion to the Gay community. He doesn’t want us to do church or to do religion/faith, but to enter the Holy of Holies all the days of our lives where God is no longer a mystery but a friend, comforter and saviour in Jesus Christ.

Our kindom and harvest field is large. For a city of 1,000,000 with 20% Christians, and 5% gays, there are  10,000 gay christians! It is these rainbow sheep that we are called to minister to, for they are out there, many no longer attending church, and are cold, hungry and sick. Jesus is the good sheperd who sends us out to find the lost sheep.

It is Jesus who saves. I am only messenger lah! I can only preach about the blood soaked mangled and broken body of Jesus Christ and His resurrection power.

The world has sinned against us, stolen everything from the gay community. When we have hope in Jesus, and assurance of salvation from the Cross of calvary, it is Jesus who will us pay back more than what we have ever lost even though He is sinless and not at fault.

We need the Amazing Grace of God in Jesus Christ who will restore all that we have lost and much more. It is this hope in Christ by faith that will bring us back to sanity and restore our spirit, soul and mind beside still living waters.
