The problem with mainline Christianity is that it is guilty of the most basic failures that it blames others – issues with honesty, consistency and hypocrisy. It is broken much more than whom it condemns.
- In the recent terrorist attacks on a religious place of worship in New Zealand, the response from the Prime Minister was hailed as exemplary. The issue of white supremacist, phobias and racism were broadcast very loud and wide until it reached the United Nations. But when the Chairman of the faith institution that was harmed then accused the Jews of causing the attack (which is utterly sick and disgusting), there was absolute quiet among the liberals. It just does not fit their faith construction.
- When a small South East Asian nation declared the death sentence for gays, the mainline churches quickly call the law archaic but the big elephant in the room was not mentioned at all in that a) the laws were motivated by faith, b) the King of the nation has many wives, divorced many women, and has a royal harem of beautiful ladies. If I have the money, I would likewise have many boyfriends!
- According to a Wikileaks, Iran executed between 4,000 to 6,000 gays and lesbians because of their faith positions. Yet, there is little condemnation from mainline Christians because of their faith construction. There is not even an outcry at the United nations nor protest at Hong Lim Park.
- There are thousands of Christians wounded/killed every year by faith based groups, yet not a word of support and solidarity from their mainline Christian brethren. It just does not fit their faith construction where the faith is about love.
How do we stay righteous before God? to have a good conscience and a clean heart – in which we will realize that we have fallen far short of the glory of God. When we realized how far we have fallen, then we start to be consistent. If we are truly honest and biblical, we quickly realized that our accusation against gays that marriage must be between one man and one woman is not biblical, for the biblical patriarchs have many wives and many more concubines.
If gays were the greatest sinners, then what about straight people who had committed thousands of abortions in Singapore each year. The Council of Churches in Singapore has position statements against gays, and keeps on insisting that gays be put in jail just for having same-sex relationship, then if we are consistent and so moral, surely divorce and adultery should carry long jail terms, and abortions perhaps life imprisonment. Why didn’t Christian gate keepers insist on these laws when they met up with the law minister?
Most of the time, if we are honest, we are like King David, stealing the baby lamb from the poor, and then don’t admit that we have committed adultery and try to cover it up our sins. That was the problem in the Catholic Church, with Cardinal Pell. When a faith is so quickly angst and quick to defend itself, and extra sensitive against criticism even with severe penalties for blaspheming their gods, it is because they are guilty and are worst sinners. Their angst is caused by hidden sins. When there was an accusation of the City Harvest church supporting Sun Ho for her music career, there was a great outcry and the person was quickly sued! Instead of a contrite heart, people of faith tends to harden their hearts.
Only when our hearts are soft, can we see Jesus. The more liberal we are, and the more Conservative we are, then we will be the most self righteous. It becomes all about ourselves, how we could keep the law, how we could love others etc when real Christianity is about Jesus Christ, His love, grace and mercy as God and Savior. The hardest heart comes from the most self righteous mainline chrisrian and conservatives. You see the liberals and the conservatives debating in the states being further apart than before, but really they are no different. Their focus is all about self rather than God’s redeeming grace in Jesus Christ.
The Pharisees came to Jesus seeking to trap Him. He just repeated the love commandment which some foolishly see as Jesus making a new commandment. It was pointing back to the law which they failed to love God was standing right in front of them whom they are now challenging. If Jesus had said you should bow down before me because I am God, they would have surely murdered Jesus!. That was the problem with people of faith trying to be righteous by their own good works, they end up killing the innocent and putting their hidden sins on others. By answering based on the law, He indirectly condemns them as sinners yet at the same time appealing to their self righteousness.
When Amos Yee was criticizing Jesus Christ, there was some clergy who said that he was not insulted by Amos, and even defended him at Hong Lim Park. The problem with Amos Yee is that he just wants to be famous and does not care about others. It is an abuse of free speech. Where are those who supports him claiming that he was just a “boy” now that he is a champion of pedophiles? Where are the likes of the Community Action Network? Are they going to “Free Amos Yee” from his pedophilia tendencies?
In the bible, there is no way that Amos could have insulted Jesus, because Christianity is based on the Cross of Calvary which is actually a symbol of insult and curse. The Cross is about how the world had totally insulted God, putting Jesus naked at the Cross, and totally tortured Him, whilst the world mocked at Him. Jesus could have called upon a legion of angels, yet He decided to give His life up, so that I may have life evermore. When we look at the Cross, about the depths and suffering of Christ, then we will realized that we should live a heart of good conscience and causing no harm.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Oh were you there when they crucified my Lord
Ooh sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Were you there when they nailed him to the cross
Were you there when they nailed him to the cross
Ooh sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they nailed him to the cross
Were you there when they laid him in the tomb
Were you there when they laid him in the tomb
Ooh sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they laid him in the tomb
Well were you there when the stone was rolled away
Were you there when the stone was rolled away
Ooh sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when the stone was rolled away
